New court rules that came into force in October 2024 have created an increase in the number of civil cases being resolved by solicitors outside the courts. This in turn has fueled a need for more civil litigation solicitors, and for one local law firm has resulted in the appointment of a new member to its team.
GHP Legal, which has offices in Wrexham, Oswestry and Llangollen and is one of the largest independent law firms in the region, has announced the appointment of Lucy Spilsbury.
Chester born Lucy completed her Law (LLB), Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Masters of Law (MA) at the University of Law, Chester, and qualified as a solicitor earlier this year. She is also a member of a pop choir known for its charity gigs in and around Chester, North Wales and Merseyside, and which briefly reached No. 1 in the charts last year with a charity single they released entitled ‘Believe! It’s Christmas’. In addition to this, Lucy runs a book club in Chester for professionals called Page Turners & Professionals.
Welcoming Lucy to the GHP Legal civil team, Partner, Robert Williams, said:
“Due to the pressure on the courts in England and Wales, new rules were brought in in October last year that allow judges to order parties to try and resolve disputes without going to court. Settling this way, through mediation, means cases can often be settled more swiftly and with less stress for the parties involved.
“As GHP Legal has advocates on the team we are able to offer continuity throughout a case, even if it has to eventually be settled in court. Lucy’s appointment reflects the busy caseload we as a firm have and will ensure we can continue to provide the high level of efficiency that clients rightly expect. Lucy impressed us at interview and we are sure she will quickly become a highly valued member of the team.”
