Patients suffering from a mental disability often lack confidence to make the right decisions about their care or finances. Many more have to rely on a relative to make decisions for them. For patients and their families the responsibility of making such decisions is a burden that can be substantially lightened with the right legal help.

At GHP Legal we have Court of Protection specialists who can act as a Professional Deputy, handling property and affairs for someone unable to handle their own financial affairs, or advise Lay Deputies about applications to the Court of Protection, particularly where no formal Power of Attorney exists.

Renowned for their sensitivity our dedicated team is one of very few in this area with specialist expertise in dealing with welfare and best interests issues, including advising on deprivation of liberty where an adult under disability is prevented from leaving the place where they are living.  We have a member of the newly established Law Society Mental Capacity (Welfare) Accreditation scheme.
