Mental Health is a highly specialised area of law and one which very few law firms in the area have the expertise to deal with. Despite this, one in three people experience mental illness at some stage of their lives. If it happens to you or a member of your family it could mean you being detained in hospital, losing your liberty, even losing some of your rights.
GHP Legal has a highly specialised and qualified team of lawyers, including a solicitor-advocate who can represent patients and their relatives in the higher courts. We regularly act for patients in hospitals and nursing homes across North Wales, Mid Wales, Shropshire and the North West, vigorously enforcing their rights if we believe they are being infringed and advising on their rights to appropriate after-care following hospital discharge.
Understanding the importance of acting quickly if a client is sectioned under the Mental Health Act, we always seek to ensure their detention is reviewed by a Mental Health Review Tribunal or hospital managers as early as possible. Once contacted, we aim to visit that client at their place of detention within 24 – 48 hours and to advise relatives of their rights and responsibilities to be involved.
