Wrexham law firm pledges support for business rate relief initiative

A Wrexham law firm has commended local Councillors for giving the green light to two schemes aimed at rejuvenating empty properties and boosting economic activity and has pledged its support for people who are considering opening new businesses in the town.

GHP Legal, one of the largest law firms in North Wales, has said it will offer a free half hour appointment to anyone contemplating taking on premises that fall within either of the two new Business Rates schemes announced by The Council Executive Board this week.

The ‘Open for Business' scheme will provide 50% rate relief for a year on properties that have been unoccupied for a continuous 12-month period and have a maximum £45,000 rateable value, whilst the ‘New Development Scheme' will exempt all newly built commercial property from business rates for the first 18 months.

Peter Blakemore, a Solicitor with GHP Legal, said:

"As one of the longest standing law firms in the town we are keen to pay a part in reducing the number of boarded up business premises in the town.

"These schemes are likely to attract new businesses whose owners may be concerned about matters relating to the Lease of a property that falls within the specified categories, or perhaps matters associated with setting up a new venture, such as standard terms and conditions or contracts of employment. By offering our support to prospective business owners and giving them the opportunity to come and discuss their considerations and concerns with us free of charge, it means we can help Wrexham bounce back.

"Anyone thinking of taking on premises, or starting up a business, can book a free half hour appointment to discuss the legal implications by calling us on 01978 291456."
