An acquisition this October will bring together two of the region’s longest established law firms.
GHP Legal, which with around 100 staff is one of the largest private practices covering Shropshire and North and Mid Wales, has acquired the Oswestry and Chirk practices of Stevens Lucas.
The acquisition has been described by the senior partners of both firms as a ‘perfect fit’. Sharing ethics that centre on retaining the old values of honesty, high standards and confidentiality, both firms pride themselves on building and maintaining long standing client relationships, both with private individuals and local businesses.
Whilst Stevens Lucas can trace its origins back to the 19th century, the success story of GHP Legal began when Gwilym Hughes, Gethin Davies and Clive Jones, all of whom were Partners in the Wrexham & Shotton Practice of Cyril Jones & Co, joined forces to establish Gwilym Hughes & Partners, later merging with Brown & Lloyd of Oswestry in 2000.
“Richard Lloyd and John Hulme, both former partners of Brown & Lloyd, continue as partners of GHP Legal today”, says Stevens Lucas Senior Partner, Patrick Stevens, “and this same seamless transition will be evident in GHP Legal’s latest acquisition. I shall remain in our Chirk office and Linda Hill will be in the firm’s Oswestry office.”
Like Stevens Lucas, GHP Legal is a multi-disciplinary practice. Employing specialists who cover almost every aspect of law the firm already has offices in Llangollen, Oswestry and Wrexham, serving a client base stretching across more than 10 counties in England and Wales. With its in-house Solicitor-Advocates and Barristers, GHP Legal is able to represent clients in all courts, providing the case continuity that smaller practices are often not able to offer.
Speaking about the acquisition Richard Lloyd said: “The merger of our two firms serves to strengthen the position of GHP Legal, who are already a highly regarded law firm across North Wales and Shropshire. We are pleased to welcome the staff of Stevens Lucas to this firm and are very proud to now call them colleagues. The two firms will continue under the GHP Legal banner but will continue forward with the shared ethics of hard work, efficiency and commitment to client care for which both firms are well renowned.”
