A year after holding its inaugural event in May last year, Wrexham Young Professionals was sponsored by one of the region’s largest law firms at its 29 May 2025 meeting.
Based in Grosvenor Road, just across the road from Coleg Cambria, sponsor GHP Legal has a long history of supporting the local colleges and universities. Offering training opportunities for aspiring young solicitors, the firm initiated the Gwilym Hughes Memorial prize with Wrexham University Law department.
The aim of WYP is to bring together local talent and businesses and inspire young people and those embarking on a new career path, providing them with opportunities for collaboration and personal and professional development.
Ulia Choudhry, a partner with GHP Legal, says the firm has been behind the WYP initiative from the outset and she is keen to point out that the group meetings are not just open to young people, but to like-minded people of all ages, from all business backgrounds.
“By building relationships with other young professionals in particular,” she says, “whether that’s within the legal sector or beyond, these networking meetings open up avenues and opportunities in an informal and therefore less daunting setting.
“As a firm GHP Legal has shared values with WYP, whose team is dynamic and enthusiastic about promoting local businesses within Wrexham. We are proud of our history of providing support and guidance to junior members of staff to progress within the firm and we encourage them to participate in WYP events.
“With a client base in the Wrexham area and far beyond, we have had strong ties within the local community for 55 years, whether that is acting for local businesses, attending careers fairs or fundraising for local charities. We want to encourage people to think local by spreading the message that you don’t have to go to Manchester or Liverpool for a good quality service. Using a local professional will get you the same level of expertise for a more reasonable price, with the added bonus that they have local knowledge.”
Lucy Spilsbury, a recently qualified solicitor in GHP Legal’s civil litigation department, said:
“I really value the opportunity to attend young professional events like this one, as they are a great way to meet others at a similar stage in their careers and to connect with local businesses in the community. It is fantastic to see our firm supporting initiatives that bring the local young professionals together.”
Trainee solicitor, Jessica Owen, who is based in GHP Legal’s family department, said:
“I attend Wrexham Young Professional events to meet like-minded people and grow my network. It is a relaxed and friendly way to meet others in the profession, and it is great to feel a part of such a strong and supportive group of young professionals in the area.”
