Wrexham man steps up to raise funds and awareness of deadly disease

A Wrexham father of two who despite suffering from arthritis is challenging himself to do 15,000 steps a day in aid of charity during August is urging others to do the same or sponsor him.

Ant Watkin, who works in the Debt Recovery department at local law firm GHP Legal, ran a total of 60 miles during the month of August last year in a similar challenge, raising more than £450 for Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

In 2017 Ant’s father-in-law, Dil Walker, died from MND, just 3 months after being diagnosed with the disease and 1 week after the birth of his first grandchild.

Proudly wearing his ‘15,000 Steps a Day in August’ t-shirt, Ant is hoping to raise a minimum of £500 from his efforts this year, as well as increasing awareness of the disease.

“Right now, 5,000 people in the UK are living with MND,” says Ant, “and every step I take in this August fundraising challenge is for them.  £12 could provide an information pack for a person newly diagnosed with MND, so please support me or rise to the challenge yourself and support MNDA directly.”
