A Wrexham IT manager is in training for his 11th ten-mile walk to raise money for a local college that has been providing vocational training for young people with disabilities since 1927.
Nigel Redfern, IT Manager with leading North Wales and Shropshire law firm GHP Legal, took part in in his first sponsored ten-mile walk for Derwen College in 2004 after visiting the garden centre there and being impressed by the dedication of college staff to improving the students’ quality of life.
Over the last forty years the college, which is near Oswestry, has substantially extended the range of services it provides to meet the needs of its students who have learning difficulties and other disabilities. The annual sponsored walk is just one way of raising the money to do this.
This year’s walk will take place on Sunday 29th March and Nigel is appealing for sponsorship.
“Anyone wishing to sponsor me should email their address, postcode and the amount sponsored to nigel.redfern@ghplegal.com Derwen College does a fantastic job, nurturing, developing and challenging its students to improve their life skills and help them get jobs and live independently. I feel proud to be able to support them and I would encourage other local people to consider taking part in the walk or offer support in other ways.
