One of the region’s largest and longest standing law firms has won the only tender awarded in North Wales to provide Prison law advice and representation.
GHP Legal, which has offices in Wrexham, Oswestry, Llangollen and Chirk, will provide the service from1st April 2017.
Widely regarded as one of the leading law firms in the area for Criminal Defence, GHP Legal represents clients across the full spectrum of criminal law, from motoring matters to more serious and complex criminal offences.
The firm’s dedicated prison law team will now specialise, amongst other things, in appeals, parole board reviews, adjudication proceedings and recalls.
Stephen Edwards, a Partner of GHP Legal and Head of the firm’s Crime Department said: “We have a specialist team of highly skilled solicitors, all of whom are committed to looking after the rights of our clients.
“We are particularly delighted to have been awarded a Prison Law contract because it means that the care and guidance our clients receive throughout their criminal proceedings will now not end at the conclusion of the case if they are sent to custody. Instead we will be able to provide a continuous service and support and advise them throughout their sentence.
“Being imprisoned can be a daunting and frightening experience, not just for the person who has been sentenced but also for their friends and family. The feeling of isolation in particular can be very overwhelming. Knowing that we can and will continue to safeguard their best interests will bring hope to clients who previously would in many cases have struggled to see a light at the end of the tunnel.”
