Q: I am married with a 3-year old son but my wife and I are separated. My wife lives with our son in our property we bought in joint names and I still pay the mortgage as she is not working. Now she has met someone else, who wants to move in with her. I am not happy about this as I am struggling financially. Could I charge my wife’s new partner rent as I own half the house and pay the mortgage?

Q:  I love my girlfriend a lot but she has two children by someone who has long since disappeared off the scene and doesn’t have any contact with them or pay any maintenance for them. I am worried that if I marry her and things don’t work out I might have to pay maintenance for her children, yet their father could come back at any time and decide he wants to renew contact. Can you confirm the situation please?

Q: After my mother died my father married an old family friend who had had a difficult time bringing up four children on her own after a messy divorce from a husband who was a gambler. I know my father was anxious to ensure she was well provided for if anything happened to him but it came as a shock to find when he died in 2012 that he had left absolutely everything to her in his will. Now she has died and has left everything to her own children, including the family home where I was born. Can I challenge my step-mother’s will?

Q:  My wife and I are both Polish. We married in Poland but have lived and worked in England since 2006. Unfortunately our marriage has now broken down and we have lived separate lives for two years but I would now like to divorce. As foreign nationals, do we get divorced in England or Poland?

Q: My husband and I had a very close relationship with our three grandchildren until two years ago when our son’s ex-wife remarried. Since then she has refused to let us see them. Do we have any legal rights to see them and, if so, how do we go about enforcing our rights?

Q:  My mother has Alzheimer’s. Just after my father died she agreed to my sister and I getting Power of Attorney so that we could take care of her affairs. We have both kinds, for money and for health and welfare, and were appointed jointly and severally. Earlier this year, Mum admitted to being frightened of living alone in her own home and of her own volition she went into a care home. She wouldn’t however hear of her house being sold in case she didn’t like the care home. She has started talking about wanting to go home recently but she could not safely take care of herself now.

Q: I own a company that has been trading in this region for many years. Until now we have only traded in the UK but last year we decided to try and widen our horizons as we have been struggling due to the recession. Following a fierce marketing campaign and with the help of some good business connections we are currently tendering for an overseas contract. As this will be our first venture into export marketing I am wondering whether we can use the same contract that we use for our UK clients, or do we need to set up a new agreement?
