Q.  Because of the pandemic I have been very worried that if I become ill, I wouldn’t be able to deal with everything that I normally have to deal with. If this happens would my brother be able to deal with everything, or do I need to make a power of attorney?

Q.  I made my Will years ago when I divorced.  Whilst my circumstances have not really changed and I have not remarried, I am concerned that as it was drawn up quickly it does not really reflect what I want to happen when I die. I am happy for my son to receive my house but, if he sells it, I would like him to ensure some of the money goes to his 3 daughters, my granddaughters.  I might also want to leave some money to other relatives.

Q:    My daughter usually lives with me and stays with her father every other weekend. That is what the court ordered. But when the COVID lockdown began and she couldn’t go to school, I agreed she could stay with him as he was furloughed and I had to carry on working. Now I have been made redundant and my ex is refusing to return her to me as he says his brother tested positive for coronavirus and they were with him, so they have got to self-isolate. I don’t believe him, and I think he has lied to my daughter about it too. What can I do?

Q:  My husband and I married over 60 years ago but the house we have lived in all our married lives is in my husband’s name only. He has now been diagnosed with dementia and I’m worried what will happen if he has to go into care. Will the house have to be sold to pay for it? He has always handled our affairs and I don’t know what to do. We made Wills years ago leaving everything to each other, and I suppose after that the children get everything.

The Head of Property at one of the region’s leading law firms has welcomed the Chancellor’s announcement of a temporary COVID-19 suspension of the Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) payable on all residential property purchases up to £500,000 in England, but warns that the Welsh government needs to follow suit.

Q: I am due to go back to work at the end of July. However, so far, I have received no information from my employer to suggest the working arrangements will change from how it was before the coronavirus lockdown. If this is the case, then I will not feel safe as the shared office space puts us too close together for comfort. Can I refuse to go back and ask to carry on working from home if nothing changes?

Q:  My seventy-year old mum is fit and healthy, but a friend of hers got COVID-19 and has been in a coma in hospital for seven weeks. The lady’s daughter did not have Power of Attorney over her mother’s affairs, which has caused huge problems. Consequently, I have been trying to persuade mum to set up a Lasting Power of Attorney, but I think she sees it as giving away her independence. Is there a way of setting up a temporary Power of Attorney that could run just until the coronavirus pandemic eases?

Q:  I have only one executor named on my Will, but the coronavirus pandemic has made me think I should add another just in case something happens to her. How can I go about doing that, especially when so many businesses are currently still in lockdown?
