Q: When my partner died recently, I expected to be able to remain in the home we had shared for nine years. He always said he intended to leave the house to his daughter, as it was the family home where she grew up, but he also said the necessary arrangements would be made for me to live out my life there. Now his daughter is saying there is no provision for me in the Will and I will have to leave the house, so that she can sell it. I have nowhere to go and no money to go with. Can I contest the Will?

Q: My brother moved in with our father after he divorced. Ten years on he is still there, claiming he has stayed because our father is lonely. I am sure he has stayed for purely selfish reasons though. He lives there for free because dad feels sorry for him and he tries to influence dad with his hard luck stories, probably in the hope that dad will favour him over me in his Will.

Q: I am a professional photographer. I was recently commissioned to take a family portrait and my customer was delighted with the result. As I often do, I later put a copy of the portrait on my website to show potential customers visiting the site what I can do. My customer has now contacted me and complained they are unhappy about this. Although I have taken the photograph off the website because I don’t want to upset them, I always thought that copyright remained with the photographer who could then do what he wished with the image. Am I wrong?

Q. For the last ten years I have hardly seen my daughter who is an alcoholic.  I have tried to offer her help but she has lied to me and stolen from me.  She lives with her partner and 6-year old son.  Her partner is also an alcoholic and I have heard that the Local Authority is involved with the family because they believe my grandson is not being cared for appropriately.  I would be prepared to care for my grandson what steps should I take to ensure he is not placed in foster care?
