Q&A Can I be prosecuted because my dog bit someone?

My dog escaped at the weekend and attacked another dog walking nearby with its owner. It took me a while to get to them, by which time the other dog owner had tried to intervene and got bitten. Unfortunately, a child that was with them was also bitten. The owner claimed it was my dog that had bitten them, but I didn’t see which dog did it and there were no witnesses. My dog has never done anything like this before. The other dog owner said she was going to report me to the police. Will they make me put my dog down? Can they prosecute me?

Q&A Are there statistics to show how successful DIY divorces are?

We parted two years ago but have not got round to divorcing, largely because of the cost involved. My wife lives with her new partner in his house while I have stayed in the marital home with our children. We agreed the children would live between us and we share the cost of their needs. However, I now feel that I want to move on with my life and to do that I think I need to formalise matters. My wife won’t see a solicitor because she says she can’t afford it. My question is, are there any statistics to show how successful DIY divorces are?

Q&A What does ‘for his own beneficial use absolutely’ mean in a Will?

My sister died earlier this year and I was joint executor of her Will. When we were going through her bequests I noticed that they stated: “for his own beneficial use absolutely”. However, when I got out my own Will and looked at it there was no wording like that. Please can you explain what ‘own beneficial use absolutely’ means?

My husband and I were on the brink of divorce, but after having counselling that revealed he is suffering from PTSD I have decided to stay and support him. He served in the armed forces in Afghanistan, finishing his last tour in 2010. Afterwards he was a different person, withdrawn, unstable, prone to violent outbursts over nothing.

Q&A What happens to me and our kids if my partner dies without making a Will?

My partner got divorced 8 years ago before he met me. Due to his marriage failing he does not want to marry again. He also won’t make a Will because he says he is too young. My concern is where would it leave me financially if, for example, he died in a car crash, especially as we have had two young children together?

Q&A Dad says he was pressured by salesman into buying bariatric bed and chair!

My elderly father, who has some mobility issues, contacted a company he saw online advertising bariatric beds and rise and lift chairs and accepted the offer of a home visit. He says he accepted out of curiosity as he knew at the time he could not afford such luxuries. However, the salesman brought a chair for him to try and ‘did a good selling job’ on him. My dad ended up signing on the dotted line, placing an order for a chair and a bed costing just over £8,000, using his credit card. My dad says he felt ‘pressured’ to buy, but nobody was with him to back that up. Is there any way he can get out of the purchases?
